on the other side of tomorrow

Sundance - 2014

on the other side of tomorrow

when you decided to go to the sundance
you had butterflies in your stomach
and  a ball of yarn in your mind

your psyche had been ripping away at the strands
connecting the being to the unbeing, the seen to the unseen
interweavings which hold together the fabric of allthingness

now perhaps though
patterns drawn free of intent  to understand
battle the restless night sky without expectation

pursuit of order withdrawn to honor the empty rich black dawn

which horse will pull the embers hot to your toes
when you break down and decide to hide or face the fire
underneath your skin of resistance

when the last dancer leaves the  arbor
the tree still stands with red and blue and lavender flags
waving "hecatu welo" as you aimlessly stumble again into the glaring questions

the cosmos does not wait for us
songs sung in quadzillions of atoms racing toward completion of function
while you wonder in heavy real time the purpose of nothingness or beingness

three pounds of cells in a skull and no idea the truth of truths

cut off the legs of purpose, the sense of duty, commitment to audience, family, world
what remains?
now, and you

remove the veil of belief and trash the dogma laden with expectancies and righteousness
what continues?
now, and you

amplify and slaughter the duality of right and wrong that defines character and conduct
what lingers?
now, and you

can complexity be this simple

when 50 billion cells die a pauper's death each day
falling into obscurity with no chance of recovery
change becomes at once inevitable opportunity

scrub the war paint, remove the feathers
adorn the insignificance of the other side of tomorrow
the now, the you

living in ash and flame
